The event that provided the greatest push to decolonize Africa is the World War II.After the end of the Second World War (1939-1945), colonial governments became more and more aware of the fact that their power in Africa wouldn’t last forever. Since the United Nations  provided a Charter that guaranteed colonial populations the right to self-determination, colonists seemed to be under pressure to explain why they were still dominating African people. Therefore, the colonial governments were forced to comply with such right.Moreover, African soldiers’ involvement in the WW2 (to fight for a country that they didn't even belong to) led many of them to seek for independence: feelings of national pride as well as the resentment of colonial rule and economic exploitation began to emerge.
