He commanded Allied forces during WW2. He was supreme Allied commander and organised the D-Day landings along with his British counterpart, Field Marshall Montgomery. MacArthur was also a General during WW2 and commanded the Pacific theatre, he was the General to receive the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
