In gibbons v. ogden (1824), the supreme court ruled that the federal government could regulate commerce

In Gibbons vs. Ogden(1824), the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government could regulate interstate commerce.

This case refers to the split of two partners -Ogden and Gibbons- that started to compete each other in steamboat business. Ogden sued Gibbons in a New York court because Gibbons did not have a license of operation.

Ogden won and Gibbons appealed to the Supreme Court.
