Roman literature begins around 3rd century BC. The Romans wrote so many poetry, comedies, history, letters, drama, and formal speeches. They avoided tragedies.

There are many comic playwrights that were written by Plautus, Ennius, and Terence. Often, their play would be performed during festivals in the city. Also, many poets became well known today because of their contribution during the peak of Roman literature. One of the great poet was Vergilius Maro or Vergil. He provided his audience with a more romanticized picture of Rome. However, his most popular work was Aeneid, an epic telling of the Aenas after the fall of Troy. Furthermore, many writers recorded the history of Rome. Livy was the most famous historian who wrote 142 volumes of history that tells about the founding of Rome up to the reign of Augustus.
