Why didn’t the britain’s just work with the indians instead of taking over?

Well, there are several reasons. The first is human nature. One race or group of people almost always believes itself to be superior to another. When you look at the cultures and ways of life between the Europeans and the Native Americans, it caused a lot of differences. The language barrier also didn't help. Where the Europeans killed and hunted for sport, the Natives hunted for clothing, food, tools, and weapons and would thank the animal spirits after they killed them. The Europeans saw this as weird. Also, they saw the dances and war calls and songs the Natives sang as odd and believed them to be devil worshippers. They made no attempt to understand one another. They were also greedy. They very much preferred to take advantage of the Indians in order to make the most profit from the precious resources the Natives possessed. The Indians were especially vulnerable to the actions of the Europeans in many ways. They were weak to the diseases they carried as they had no immunity and they also could not compete with their guns.
