Ibn Battuta was an Islamic qadi, or judge who traveled throughout Dar-al Islam. He found many things interesting including the way different societies interpreted and adapted the Islamic doctrines differently. For example, on a visit to Africa, in a village where the majority of the population was Muslim, Battuta observed Muslim women interacting with men who were not their husbands or family members.
