In December 1917, Mabel Dodge moved from Greenwich Village to New Mexico to see her husband and her son. In the beginning, she planned to stay for a short, some kind of vacation, but literally fell in love with New Mexico, returned to New York to pick up her belongings and permanently settled in New Mexico. She often remarked that this was a turning point in her life, her life was divided into two parts and she entered the second part.
