When President W. Bush took office on January 20th 2001 he wanted to change President Bill Clinton energy policies. President Bush started by given extended tax credits to fossil fuel companies to begin explorations in new areas of the U.S. which have been declared unavailable by the previous administration. Environmental groups were very upset by this decision which according to them was set to destroy many pristine areas, where wild life was protected.
