  Oficcially titled Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Limits and Settlement between the United States of America and the Mexican Republic is the treaty that ended the Mexican-American war on february 2 1848 in the Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo.

  After having lost its capital Mexico started to enable negotiations to finish the war, with the treaty Mexico gave in almost half of its territory such as the totality of the states that we today known as: Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah,  Nuevo Mexico, Wyoming and a part of Colorado. In compensation U.S.A. paid $15 million dollars in the concept of damages to the Mexican territory during the war.

  The negotiations put the boundaries between Texas and Mexico on the Rio Bravo also known as Rio Grande. It was stipulated the protection of the civil and property rights of the mexican people that stayed in the new American soil under the condition of choosing the U.S. citizenship within a year after the signed of the treatment, otherwise they could remain as Mexican citizens but they had to be relocated.  The last point treated was the settlement of any future dispute under obligatory arbitrage.

  In order to get the treaty ratified both presidents had to ask for the congress aprobation in less than 4 months, the U.S. senate advised and consent this ratification by a vote 38-14.
