In what ways was the dawes act intended to change american indian culture?

The Dawes Act or The Dawes Severalty Act was enacted in 1887.

It was aimed at dividing Native American tribal land into portions for individual  American Indians. As a consequence, the person who accepted this deal and lived far from the tribe would be acknowledged a U.S citizen and become susceptible to state, local and federal laws.

In addition,the main reason behind the Dawes Act was to put an end to native collective land ownership so as to pass possession to white settlers. Subsequently, the Native American people could be integrated into American society and could leave poverty behind.
