Heifer international’s function is to reduce poverty by providing

Heifer International is an international NGO based in the USA that aims to foster economic development by donating cattle and poultry animals to farmers in developing countries as well as agricultural training.

They also foster a value system in which the farmers engage to adhere to their values by “passing on the gift” to other farmers in need by sharing their training and their animal progeny with them. The idea is to facilitate a cascade effect in which poor communities are able to achieve and sustain alimentary self-sufficiency.
