There are many different patterns in the Psalms, but we will mention two:

Most of these patterns are on the first line of the Psalm  

The first pattern we can mention is the lament.

Psalm 3:  David he was in great lament because his son was chasing after him to harm him.

They can be poetic.

Psalm 8:  David expresses how great God is and how little are men before Him.

Many music and notes are used in the psalms and many were sung by different musicians.

Psalms 75:  Asaph writes a song to the Lord expressing his powerful deeds over men and was sung by the chief musician, Altaschith.

Psalms 81:  Asaph writes a joyful song to all the wonders of the God of Jacob and was sent to the chief musician upon Gittith.

And rhythm (like repetition) is also present in the Psalms.  

Psalms 136: Repeats “for his mercy endureth for ever” at the end of each verse in this chapter.

So all the options regarding how the book of the Psalms was written apply.
