New Mexico’s women organized quickly in each town and city. They organized ‘Open markets’ in every town to sell and distribute home grown vegetables and food products. Dried food was sent to the war effort.Because the men were gone there was a concern that the crops would not be harvested, but instead, the women picked the crops.
