The project was so secret that records state that only a handful of professionals really knew what was the objective of all of the efforts that were being made on a day to day basis in the project.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, another group of scientists was working on creating the first nuclear reactor in order to produce enriched plutonium. Which was a key component of a second atomic bomb?
