13. what was the council of trent and what did it accomplish?

It was a council held in the city of Trent (Italia) between the years 1545 and 1563. It was convened by Pope Paul III and concluded by the Pope Pius IV. During the council the main members of the Catholic Church met to discuss topics related to ecclesiastical nature in response to the Reformation proposed by the Protestantism.

Among the agreements accomplished is mainly noticeable the definition of some dogmas that had no answer in the Catholic Church at that moment, for example:

-Man has free will, faith was earned through the Holy Scriptures, and the church is a holy, catholic, Roman, and apostolic institution.

-The principles of procedure and discipline were established, such as the obedience of the bishop to the pope and conditions of priestly recruitment.

On the other hand, it was reaffirmed that faith is necessary for salvation, but also are good works and the Holy Scriptures should be interpreted by the Church and not have free interpretation, in contraposition with what Luther (the founder of Protestantism) said.
