Why would it be important for the president to maintain his public schedule?

because if the president didn't maintain his public schedule he could be accused of not being organised and or unfit for his high position

east-west schism. the greatest effect of the east-west schism was the creation of two separate churches that had previously been unified under one church, the eastern orthodox church and the roman catholic church.
