Being a soldier in colonial India in the mid-1800s one would have fought in the India rebellion of 1857 also known as the Indian Mutiny. This became a turning point in the history of India and Britain when Sepoys rose up against the British in Meerut which resulted in the massacre of all British soldiers in  Delhi. These conflicts were bloody which resulted in the British dispatching more soldiers to India to end the Mutiny through merciless tactics to restore order. Sepoys who had surrendered were executed by British soldiers. Previously, Indians were known to be deeply conservative in their traditions and ways of life which had been disregarded by the British. Indians had been offended by reforms, new technology, new laws, and even Christianity which had been forced upon them thus resulted in resistance with violence towards the British.
