If it is the revolutionary war, there where different reasons. The turning point of the war was when the French, and sometime later Spain and Holland, joined the battle. After the battle of Saratoga they realized the British could be defeated and decided to help us. A couple other factors were things such as, it was our land and we knew it a little better then regulars. We were fighting for freedom and not for a king, so our hearts were in it more.
