How do primary and general elections differ? select all that apply. in the primaries you can vote for your first choice candidate while the general elections only allow you to vote along party lines. primary elections always have local and state candidates while general elections always have national candidates. primary elections determine which will be the top pick within a party while general elections have both party's candidates on the ballot. in primary elections you can generally only vote if you select a party affiliation o general elections are always held the on the tuesday after the first monday in november.
