This plan was put in place to increase the United States sphere of influence in the European Continent and to gain control and alliances from Western European States. This was to prevent the Soviet Union from having increased influence in the European Continent and interfere with U.S. interests there. It was an economic development plan to help restore and rebuild Europe following WWII.
