Why is hammurabi's code important?
many of the laws in use today come from hammurabi's code.
hammurabi based his code of law on the religious principles of the sumerians.
it was the first time any ruler or society attempted to use written law that applied to everyone.
it was a major step forward for civilization because it protected the weak from the strong.
