The Spanish missionaries taught American Indians carpentry, masonry, and blacksmithing but not skills related to combat because C. they didn't want American Indians to revolt.  

The Spanish missionaries were aware of the abilities of the American Indians, but at the same time, they feared that if the American Indians get acquainted with warfare skills like that of the Spanish, they may use the same skills to revolt against the Spanish colonies some or the other day.

This was done while spreading Christianity. The Spanish missionaries also taught children to write and read.
