The primary difference between Virginia and the New England colonies was that D. Virginia was founded for commercial reasons, while New England was founded for religious reasons.

The colony of Virginia was established because the British wanted to reap the same benefits that the Spanish were reaping in South and Central America. They therefore established Virginia for commercial purposes but it would take a long time before Virginia became profitable.

The New England colonies on the other hand, were established for their inhabitants to practice religious freedom:

Massachusetts was established by Puritans who had suffered persecution in England New Hampshire was found by John Mason who was also a Puritan Rhode Island colony was founded by Puritans who wanted more religious tolerance than in Massachusetts

In conclusion, colonists in New England simply wanted to practice religious freedom whilst those in Virginia were there to make profit.

The Jamestown colony of Virginia was founded in 1607. The Virginia London company received the charter by King James and supported the trip to the North American territory. People that traveled to this first official colony wanted to be rich or richer. As simple as that.

On the other hand, Puritans founded the colony of Plymouth, New England in 1620. They left Britain because they were being prosecuted for religion differences with the Church of England.
