In 1800, farmers were facing problems that included overproduction, inflation all of which resulted in bad revenue. Their strategy to solve these problems was opposed, therefore, they formed groups such as the Grange to help reduce transportation costs.  

Amongst other negotiations that the Grange group liaised, was a low shipping cost which didn't succeed. It also encouraged farmers to jointly sell crops to raise money. The Granger movement also encouraged cooperation between farmers of different states and this led to passing the Granger laws to reduce costs associated with farming and shipping goods.
