Essay topic #2 michael shaara wrote the killer angels from the point of view of not only the union army, but also the confederate army. when he wrote accounts of the battle from the confederate side, he wrote from the point of view of the high ranking and most famous generals, such as robert e. lee, james longstreet, and j. e.b. stuart. however, when writing from the union point of view, he used the perspectives of brigadier general (one star) john buford and colonel joshua chamberlain. question #2: why did michael shaara not use higher ranking officers, like commanding general george meade, in his book to tell the story of the union's fight but used the most well-known and high ranking confederates to tell their side of the story? were the heroics of the likes of chamberlain at little round top and buford holding the ground on the first day a worthier story to tell rather than from the point of view from meade?
