He was the most popular politician of that time in Germany and very often was saying what Germans wanted to hear. He took advantage of widespread nationalism as well and so-called volkisch thought. Hitler became very popular among common Germans, he was able to convince them that the ennemies are outside Germany: usually Jews, Communists, Western decadent democracies. Economic crisis in the end of 1920 worked in his favour. When he became a chancellor he did all the measures to become absolute ruler of Germany. Opposition agains him was very weak.
