1. Wall Street Crash 1929

this was the greatest stock market crash in American History. It sent global recession to all America's trading partners and it marked the beginning of the 10-year Great Depression. Nearly half of America's banks had failed, and unemployment was approaching 15 million people, or 30 percent of the workforce. It also sent the citizens of Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors.

e.g. In Germany 1932, 6 million unemployed. The whole country was bankrupt.

America was too busy repairing damages and their commercial banks were blamed.

2. Bank Failures - Throughout the 1930s over 9,000 banks failed. Bank deposits were uninsured and thus as banks

failed people simply lost their savings. Surviving banks, unsure of the economic situation and concerned for their own

survival, stopped being as willing to create new loans. This exacerbated the situation leading to less and less

expenditures.
