Samuel Worcester who was a white missionary was advising the Cherokee community to resist the Georgia laws.

Explanation:

Samuel advised the people of Cherokee community who belong the native American tribe to resist the laws of Georgia because the native tribe had the autonomy and right to live in the land through agreement with the US government.  Georgia responded by passing the law which prohibited the white men to live in Cherokee lands unless they received the licence to live from the state government of Georgia. Worcester never obtained licence and hence he was arrested.

The supreme court ruled that the Indian tribes are separate from the states and the native american tribes are having close interlink with the federal government and not the states of Georgia and hence under the writ of error, the laws passed by the state of Georgia was held to be unconstitutional which freed Samuel Worcester.
