In essence, the Alien and Sedition Acts gives the President the power to deport aliens and permit their arrest and imprison them during wartime

However, the legislation was in favor of the federalist because its also gives government the power to prosecute critics of the government.

This was made in order to make the naturalization process in the country to be stricter and give the president power to deport the non-citizens, as well as imprison them. This relates to the the Alien Act. On the contrary, the Sedition Act allowed the president to put somebody imprison if he/she makes a false statement against the government.
