How did the roman government maintain control over coquered territories

By the beginning of the 1st century AD Rome controlled the entire Mediterranean region and was home to nearly 20% of the global population at the time.

Romans used a systematic structure of governance to control these occupied areas. Each conquered state was converted in to a province and a governor was appointed by the emperor to rule on his behalf. The governor was the supreme authority in that region and was given with the necessary manpower to administereach province. So the governor along with the chosen officers were the central unit of administration.

Moreover, Romans employed a strategy called the "Romanization" that aimed to absorb the conquered regions population in to the Roman culture.
