Why did Galileo go to jail for publishing evidence that support the sun-centered solar system theory

Galileo Galilei had to confront the Inquisition. His scientific work and discoveries questioned official beliefs supported by the Vatican. By questioning them, those discoveries also questioned the central position of the Church in society. If, for example, Earth was not the center of the Solar System and all the planets don´t orbit Earth, then the universal Church was not at the center of the system. Galilei´s conclusions were dangerous for the Catholic Church.
