The Treaty of Versailles helped create the preconditions for another war. Discuss the basic conditions of the treaty, what it was trying to accomplish regarding Germany’s post-World War I status, and how it led to another even more devastating war.

France and Britain are responsible for imposing very harsh conditions on Germany. Exorbitant reparations of war that helped cripple the inter-war German economy affected by hyperinflation, unemployment and the Great Depression. The Treaty of Versailles also dictated a demilitarized zone in the Franco-German border and limitations on the number of its armed forces and the types of weapons it could develop and possess. And particularly painful was the "guilty clause" of the treaty that made Germany responsible for the outbreak of the war. All of those conditions fed resentment and feelings of revanche and humilliated Germans. They laid the ground for another war; Hitler and the Nazis skillfully exploited and manipulated those feelings.
