Write a short paragraph explaining what you think are the key reasons christianity spread to and survived in the roman empire.

I'm not going to write the paragraph but I will give some dot points that may help:
- The Roman empire Constantine became a devoted Christian and created a number of pro-Christinan legislations during his time. (For example, he made churches tax exempt, made Sunday a public holiday do that more people could go the church etc)
- The Apostle Paul was also a key factor in the spread of Christian beliefs geographically (he spent 30 years, travelling over 10000 miles across the Roman Empire to preach the Christian message)
- Many of the places Paul travelled to were home to thousands of poor desperate people who were the perfect audience for the Christian message of eternal life (there were also a number of migrants in the trade cities which helped spread Christianity very rapidly)
- Christianity was a very popular belief at the time because:
_ It was free to join, and unlike many of the other pagan religions, mystery cults and life philosophies at the time, it was open to women and the poor

- The churches promoted many charities which gave to Christians in need (this enabled the wealthy to feel good and do good in the sight of god and provided its poorest members with financial assistance)
