According to many historians, the 1920s represented a backlash or reaction to the Progressive Era. In an essay evaluate this argument. In doing so, be sure to consider the causes of this backlash, in other words, what issues or events were responsible for this reaction. Please be specific and explain clearly how or why they helped turn Americans against Progressivism. (HINT: Historians usually date the turn against Progressivism somewhere around World War I, or roughly 1917-19.) In addition, how was this backlash manifested or expressed in American society during the 1920s?
