According to the section "Japan's Drive to Modernize" why did Japan take over Taiwan and Korea

D is the only logical choice as at the time Japan did not have major influence from the British, was not controlled by Western Powers and was not supplying them with resources.  The goal for Japan as an island state was to expand its resource b ase.
