Small cylinders carved out of stones and used to make impression on wet clay were known as cylinder seals. When the seal is rolled on the wet clay it leaves an impression that can be used to prove the identity and ownership. the seal mentioned in the picture are Mesopotamian cylinders seals.

Mesopotamian seals are words of arts as they contain tiny figures of men, beasts and gods. Most of the Mesopotamian seals were made of lapis lazuli, carnelian, semi precious stones and limestone.  Some seals were also made of gold, bone, ivory, bronze and copper.
