A Democracy is where citizens vote for a leader/laws/etc. An Oligarchy is where a couple of people rule over a country. A tyrant is basically rules a country with an iron fist. Aristocrats (Aristocracy) are, to put is simply, nobles in charge of the country/part of it.

An Isthmus is a narrow piece of land connecting to other land masses (i.e. The country of Panama is an Isthmus, connecting Central and South America.) A Peninsula is a body of land surrounded by water on three sides (If it surrounded all sides, it would be an island.) A Polis is a Greek City-State. A city-state is basically a small country on a map.
