Here is your goal for this assignment:

Construct a model government to solve a current political issue

For the next week, read the newspaper and cut out any discussions of politics that appear.

Select several stories about making rules or decisions in government and collect follow-up reports on the following days so that you have at least one complete story. Remember that political science is the study of who gets what, when, and how.

Most national and international political news appears in the first two pages of the first section of newspapers while state and local news appears primarily in the first pages of the second and third sections.

Use outside reading materials to learn about the background of the political story or event you are observing. You will use these materials in this section of the unit.

Construct a model government to solve the political issue you have studied. The articles on political events you have collected from the newspapers will be used to show how the process of politics works.

Identify each group or leader of each group, and write a short paragraph stating how each group perceives the issue.
Label the inputs of each group as being either a demand or a support. Both groups could be making demands if no government plans pertaining to the issue presently exist.
Label all the outputs according to whether they are rewards, sanctions, or symbols. If the issue has not yet been settled, use your imagination and attempt to predict what might happen.
Draw your model government on paper using different colors, and include your explanation of what is happening and what the outcome might be.
