Explaining What issue led to the formation of the Republican Party, and what stand did the party take on the issue?

A bill known as the Kansas-Nebraska bill was passed in 1854 that was mostly on the opposing side of the Missouri Compromise. There stand was to support equal rights to all Southern citizens.

The Kansas-Nebraska Bill allowed statuses such as slave and free and this was a violation to the Missouri Compromise, which had lasted about 30 years.  People who were anti-slavery met together with the opinion of making a new group, the Republican Party.
