Ethiopia was never directly colonized and it is largely due to the outcome of this battle that it was rarely challenge afterwards.

In this battle they were helped along by the French and Russian who had business ties with Ethiopia related to the African land so they helped them against Italy who would rake in whole profits if they were to take over the country.
