World War I and World War II as another Thirty Years War in world history. Yet while many similarities exist within the European and the Asia theaters, the American experience in World War I and World War II was dramatically transformed. How would you characterize the nation’s role in both world wars? To what extent did the wars fundamentally alter both American domestic politics and foreign policy? What were the long-term consequences for the United States in each war, and did either military conflict usher in a major paradigm shift in American foreign policy?
