The information below describes two important works by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In April 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” after being arrested for protesting against segregation. The letter primarily addressed white members of the clergy who had pressed protestors to allow the courts to settle the issue of civil rights in the United States. In August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
