Part 4: Crushing Empire and Creating Countries
Review the maps of Europe in 1914 (before the war) and 1919 (after the war), then complete the table below.
Context: At the end of the war, the Treaty of Versailles mandated the realignment of European borders in an effort to prevent further conflicts. Aging Empires were disbanded while smaller nations were bundled together in newly created countries in an effort to balance power in Eastern Europe.
