3. Which of the following best summarizes the significance of
and tension created in proclaiming Richmond as the capital
of the U. S. Confederacy?
LO A Declaring Richmond as the capital of the Confederacy
meant that the rebel states were very serious about
secession, which no one previously credited.
O B Declaring Richmond as the capital of the Confederacy,
as opposed to the previously considered Montgomery,
showed the Virginian enthusiasm for secession, of which
theirs had always been the strongest.
с Richmond would begin as a beacon of Southern pride as
the capital of the Confederacy and would end as an
example of punishment those who rebelled.
O D Richmond, as opposed to Montgomery, is not far from
Washington D. C.; this added to the tension already felt
by those who feared the Confederates would try to take
the Union capital.
