Why does the s-block portion of the periodic table span into two groups?

The S-block portion of the periodic table span into two groups because an s orbital has two maximum valence electrons that can be fit in the subgroup. This is according to the Pauli exclusion principle and the Hund's rule. All other orbitals such as the p, d and f orbital have different number of groups
