The presidential election of 2000 was different to other presidential elections in that it was particularly close. Al Gore, the defeated candidate, won the popular vote by over 500,000, but George W. Bush won the electoral college by 5 electoral votes.

The reason why George W. Bush was able to carry the election was that he won the state of Florida, which gave him 25 electoral votes, and he won Florida by only 537 votes.

No, I do not think the Supreme Court was right because the election was extremely close, and a recount wold have helped everyone have more clarity.
