The theory meant that if the Communists succeeded in taking over a country without the United States intervening, more countries would risk giving in to the Communists because they would see that they could not expect any help. The Domino Theory was first used by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in a press conference on April 7, 1954. He believed that if France lost the war in Indochina, communism would spread to Burma, Thailand, Malaya and Indonesia.
