How did the role of religion differ between feudal Japan and feudal Europe? Japanese peasants were more religious than European serfs. In Europe there was only one religion; in Japan there were two. Japanese nobles and warriors did not pursue religious wars. Buddhist abbots had more worldly power than Christian bishops.
