When the Founders wrote the Constitution, they feared a dictatorship, where one person or group gains so much power that they gain complete power over the country and can do whatever they want. So, what they did is split up the executive, legislative, and judicial powers into three branches that can check and balance each other so that power in one does not get out of hand.
