How were settlement societies different from hunter-gatherer societies? Hunter-gatherer societies relied on outside trade for food supplies. Settlement societies did not have contact with other human groups. Hunter-gatherer societies were able to use leisure time to develop art. Settlement societies specialized in tasks other than hunting and farming.
